What is a healthy diet?

What is a healthy diet?

We are constantly bombarded with media stories relating to the latest fad diets that promise instant weight loss, or the new super food with claims of increased energy and youthfulness. It's no wonder people are left feeling confused and disappointed and why in most cases they admit defeat and go back to their old eating habits.

Many people think they are eating a healthy diet. Most of us know the basics of healthy eating but very few people actually eat a truly healthy diet containing optimal levels of nutrients. The main problem is that the concept of a “healthy diet” is too vague and unspecific.

So to go back to the original question, 'what is a healthy diet'? Well, a generic healthy diet doesn't actually exist. If it did, we could all follow the same diet with the same foods and expect the same positive outcome. The reality is quite different, however. We are all individual with our own unique genetic code and biochemical differences. As well as your diet, your current health challenges, lifestyle, environment and emotions also contribute to your individual health picture. That's why the optimum nutritional programme needs to be tailored to fit you.
