Hi! I'm Alex Georgiou and I’m a registered nutritionist with a passion for helping people get well. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than helping others to overcome challenging health conditions and return to optimum wellness.
One of the things I'm often asked is, "What made you want to be a nutritionist?"
My keen interest in health and nutrition began after facing my own personal health issues when I was 28 years old. I had IBS symptoms of bloating, cramping and chronic diarrhoea as well as 'adrenal fatigue', anxiety and insomnia. Unfortunately, conventional medicine couldn’t resolve my health problems, which led me to seek the expertise of a nutritional therapist. She was able to recognise my symptoms were caused by an imbalance in my gut bacteria and my digestive problems were exacerbated by wheat and other gluten grains. I also had a genetic problem that affected something called methylation, which was the root cause of all my health issues.
Soon after getting well again, I decided to make nutrition my vocation, so I studied for three years to gain my professional diploma in nutritional therapy. I love being in a profession that I can pour my heart and soul into, that aligns with my values and contributes to the world in a positive way.
Education and experience
I am a fully qualified Nutritional Therapist having completed my three-year professional diploma in Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy at the prestigious College of Naturopathic Medicine in London.
I'm a full member of the British Association of Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT), as well as the Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (ANP) and I am also registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), the only register for Nutritional Therapy recognised by the government's Department of Health.
I have gained accreditation as a SIBO certified practitioner by internationally renowned Dr. Alison Sibecker. She is a pioneer in treating patients with SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) which is the leading cause of IBS. The knowledge I have gained from this course has enabled me to offer the most up-to-date and most effective treatment for many IBS sufferers.
Continuing professional development
Staying on top of the latest research and attending seminars keeps me informed of how best to treat each patient. I take advantage of as many CPD opportunities as my schedule allows. CPD keeps me informed on new developments in lab testing and treatment protocols and allows me to learn from the leading practitioners and companies in the industry. This ensures I am able to provide my clients with the best treatment outcome possible.
